Today I learned how to make a four-flap enclosure. This enclosure is used mainly for books. The book above had extensive worm hole damage. The critter that did the damage must have been about 1/4" in diameter. Luckily he is long gone.
This lacquer box contained two books which each received a separate four-flap enclosure.


I'm not sure what this says. I couldn't find the first symbol in my kanji dictionary and the most similar symbol to the second one I could find was SHIN, meaning truth, genuineness, or reality. The 3rd symbol is pretty obscured by the last symbol which may signify authorship.

This page is interesting to me because it uses a lot of symbols from the katakana syllabary which is usually used for foreign words or to italicize, but here it is even used to provide pronunciation for some of the kanji which I haven't seen done before. Usually hiragana is used.
